My reflection
'You are magnificent, you are perfect' He reminded me every time I beamed and grinned when he said, 'You're the best thing that's ever been called mine'
I conceived myself through his reflections His 'unbiased' opinions and impartial affirmations I was bold, confident and smart, There was nothing that could ever do us part.
He was my mirror In him, I saw myself My distinctive features, my eyes, my lips, Everything about me stood apart from the rest
I wasn't fat, not at all I was cute and cuddly, petite and small Nothing could spur a blow in our paradise, But the enchantment was momentous, it all came at a price.
The fire alit soon ran out A harangue of words formed into a spout Bombardment with allegations, grudges and lies, Bitter truth spilled out, answered by cries.
My perception of self shattered into pieces My confidence and charm lost their bases Screaming, crying, shambling along, I could now see the mirror That struck me like a prong
Picking up the bits, I rose to my feet Restoring my identity Was going to be a tough feat.
Now that the eyes were dried And the spirits rose to a new high I could see my own reflection, Unfazed, through my own eyes, In the mirror of my own introspection.
